Can I get Emergency dial-up Access?
Yes.

Sometimes it is necessary to dial-up when you are on another computer and or not able to find your dial-up login details.

Emergency dial-up is available using the following details:

Number (see above)

Username: guest

Password: login

NOTE: It is important that BASIC users do not use Emergency dial-up settings permanently. Because the emergency dial-up does not log the users REAL username and password this will cause the system to think that they no longer use their connection, and their account may be closed.

Why do I get a "Relaying Denied" error when I send mail - MAILplus & HOSTplus users?
To prevent your mail server being abused b spammers, we employ a security system that requires you to attempt to recieve mail before you can send.

The following steps in Outlook Express will activate your email account if you have this difficulty, other email clients will have similar options:

1. Open Outlook Express

2. Click the small black arrow at the side of the "Send/Recv" button. A menu will open, select "Recieve All" from the menu.

3. Once the mail recieving process has completed, repeat step 2.

4. Your account should now be activated.

This ensures only authorised users who have accounts are able to send mail. The outgoing mail will work without difficulty for a while, but if your account is left idle for too long (e.g. overnight), you may need to repeat the steps above

Why do I get Spam?
There are many reasons, some of the most likely reason are:

1. Your email address exists in a readable format on a website, and has been gleaned by a spammer.

2. Your email address is a common name, and has been randomly tried by a spammer.

For instance, if a spammer already had john@hotmail.com, then they might try putting the 'john' part of the address in front of '@bigwig.net' to see if it works.

NOTE: You are not always sent spam because of something you did, or because you registered as a user on a web service.

Why do I get messages that appear to have bounced back to me that I haven't sent?
Some likely reasons are:

1. The mail is a hoax, generated by a spammer, and is designed to trick you into dropping your guard and openning the email.

2. The email was sent from a computer that is infected with a virus, and has been disguised to trick you into dropping your guard and openning the email. If someones computer, with your email address in their address book, got infected with a computer virus, the infected computer could send emails to you without the owners knowledge, and could also make it appear as though they mails came not from the infected computer, but from one of the people in the address book on that computer.

Why do I get email that appear to not be addressed to me?
A common practice of spammers and viruses is to send emails with a "Forged Header". This means that the true sender and the true recipient can be hidden from the view of all but expert users.

In fact, if an email arrives in your inbox, it has been addressed to you, but not necessarily in an easily human readable part of the email code. Go to Top

Why are my emails bouncing back to people who try to mail me?
The most likely reasons are:

1. Your contact has not spelled your email address correctly. Double check that your contact is using your correct address.

2. Your email box is full, and cannot accept any more mail.

3. The email being sent to you is very large, and would make your mailbox overfull if it were recieved.

Ensure you regularly empty your mailbox, by either downloading all mail to your local machine, or deleting old messages in Webmail. Go to Top
Why can't I login to my email?
The most likely reasons are:

1. You have the wrong username or password.
Double check, or contact our support team to have your password reset.

2. Your mailbox is over full and has locked.
This is common with BASIC and MAILplus users, you may need to contact online support to have your emailbox quota reset. Go to Top
